Puff came from a single digit 5, which I’ve found at Archillect. I took this railroad-like grid, made a sketch in Figma (even with 3 variable axis - width, weight and italic) and left this sketch for a year. In late 2022 I’ve remembered about it and transfered it to Glyphs during long train rides and flights. It took only 3-4 sessions (about 16 hours in total) to finish basic set (allcaps latin, cyrillic, digits, in two styles — regular and wide) and than I’ve also left it for a year to realise that it is somewhat finished and I can share it with friends.
I’ve made a Heavy version (simply applying thicker stroke on all modules), rejected width axis (at least for now) and released it as it is. Now work is still in progress — I am thinking of a way to make more complex letterforms in this logic. Or at least release it as I’ve initially planned, with 3 variable axis.
Made in 2021 and initially known as Hertz MC. Released as Hertz, in two styles named KHz (shown) and MHz.
Rasteroids is a typographic flashback to computing of the mid 1980s. Rasteroids not only captures the dot-matrix printer look, but recreates the rasterized appearance of text on those lower-resolution monitors.
